Retro Reminisce

PILOT

This is where it all began. A quiet little place called Lawrence in Kansas. No one knew what would happen this night. No one was expecting anything out of the ordinary to happen. Oh, and I forgot to mention that it was also over 22 years ago.

The family in the house are not expecting to receive any visitors. It is, after all, very late at night. The mother (Mary) has woken and is checking on the baby boy (Sam) in his nursery. The older of the two boys (Dean) is in his room. Standing over Sam's cot is his father (John). Or so Mary thinks. Until she goes downstairs to get a bottle for Sam and finds John dozing in front of the tv. Upon seeing John, Mary runs upstairs taking the stairs two at a time to confront the man in the nursery. It appears she is too late. The man has done what he came to do. The man, annoyed at being interrupted, pins Mary against the wall without even touching her. He slowly drags her up the wall and onto the ceiling.

Upon hearing the commotion, John scrambles out his chair and charges up the stairs. He checks on Sam and is just putting his hand in the cot, when he sees blood on his hand. Looking upwards he sees Mary on the ceiling. The next thing he sees is her combusting into flames.

And so begins the fate of our two hunters. Dean and Sam Winchester. One (Dean) has been trained from a young age to kill all the things you can only imagine in your worst nightmares. The other (Sam) has been protected in cotton wool from ever seeing any of these things. He has a normal life.

Fast forward to the present and we see Sam leading a very normal life. He has an apartment, a girlfriend Jessica and a promising career as a Lawyer. The last thing he was expecting in his perfectly normal life was a disruption. Enter Dean. Rooting around in the middle of the night in Sam's apartment looking for a beer. Or so he tells Sam when he gets confronted.

Dean informs Sam that their dad has gone on a hunting trip and hasn't returned yet. Sam says that that's not really unusual and he'll return when he's done hunting. Dean reiterates that their dad has gone on a "hunting" trip and hasn't came home. It's only then that the penny drops. Sam realises what Dean is talking about. He walks Dean to his car and the conversation turns to all things Supernatural. When Dean opens the trunk of his car, it's only then Sam realises the enormity of what it is Dean actually does.

So here begins the hunt. The two Winchester boys begin to track down John's movements in the hope of finding him. Along the way they go to John's motel room and find that there are numerous Supernatural articles on the walls. They also find John's Journal and take it with them. There's a case John was working on involving a mysterious woman in white. Dean and Sam decide to follow in John's footsteps in the hope that they will catch up to him. Maybe this woman in white holds the key to where John actually is.

It seems that this woman in white gets men to take her home. When they do take her home, the men mysteriously vanish into thin air. Sam comes across the woman in white and she magically appears in the car. She asks Sam to take her home. She actually means to her home and Sam says he can't take her home. So, she drives the car herself and they end up at her house. It's not been lived in for years. The woman starts panicking saying she can never go home. Sam drives the car into the house and it is here we find out that the woman drowned her two children. The reason she can't go home is that the children are waiting for her and when she does return they get their revenge on her. One case closed, but still no sign of John.

Dean drives Sam back to his apartment and then leaves. When Sam gets back inside he finds a note from Jessica and lies down on the bed with a huge smile on his face. Until he feels something dripping on his forehead. He looks up and Jessica is in the same position on the ceiling as Mary was all those years ago. She also combusts into flames and Dean barges into the apartment to get Sam out before he too ends up dead.

Once the fire has been subdued, Dean and Sam are talking. Sam is giving up being a lawyer and is joining Dean on the hunt. It's all about revenge for Sam. For Dean, it's just another day at the office.

  1. Very cool summary of the Pilot. Are you doing this for all the episodes? Please tell me your still going to post hot pictures too! I'll read whatever you post. Do you know any other Supernatural blogs out there besides the one you linked on the side of your page? I can't get enough of Supernatural. I never read any blogs for anything else. Crazy how this show just sticks with you.
